Sebastian Evans graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours degree in English Literature and a minor in Fine Arts in 2016. He lives and works in London, Ontario.
He comes from a family of artists who nurtured an engagement with fine art, especially an early love for the abstract painting of the 20th century, which developed into his current artistic practice. It is a practice that seeks to illustrate the psychic influence of great artists and work, an influence of paramount importance to his own understanding of the human spiritual drive to create. He seeks to reveal the nuance of a spiritual life through expressions of colour, shape, form and text, to himself and hopefully to anyone who chooses to engage with the work.
Jackson Pollock says “Every good artist paints what he is” and “The modern artist is working with space and time and expressing his feelings rather than illustrating.” - This is exactly the motivation which drives Sebastian's practice; to push for new work which can reference the spiritual world of modern art and push into the future. He hopes to create art which will appeal to Millenials and Gen Z and capture the mysterious growth of a spiritual being that begins in childhood and never really rests.
Sebastian has created abstract works on canvas dating back to his early teenage years and has experienced a vital growth of his artistic practice since graduating from university and occupying his first real dedicated studio space.
